Gary Player names the ‘most athletic golfer’ he’s ever seen on the PGA Tour
The nine-time major winner is still going strong approaching 90 and competed in the recent Hero World Challenge with one of his grandchildren.
Player has played with and against some of the best to ever play golf. The South African often went toe to toe with the best the USA had to offer in the likes of Arnold Palmer, Ben Hogan and Jack Nicklaus and it’s quite remarkable he won the majors he did.
Sam Snead remains joint top with Tiger Woods in terms of PGA Tour wins at 82 and it’s quite fitting really that Player names him as the most athletic golfer.
Woods is very much regarded as being a player who changed the game in terms of fitness and gym work and it’s obvious Snead was ahead of his time really.
Taking to X, Player revealed Snead is his man and explained just why he puts him at number one.
Was Sam Snead the most athletic golfer our sport has ever known? I used to call him gumby because even in his 70s, Sam could kick and hit the top of a door frame with his foot. Incredible flexibility which helped him have a very long and incredible career. GP pic.twitter.com/2PYVQCc5NM
