Tiger Woods identifies PGA Tour star with perfect swing who’ll be ‘one of world’s best’
Ludvig Aberg has a massive fan and it happens to be golf legend Tiger Woods, who was left in awe by the Swede’s performance at the inaugural TGL match in Palm Beach
Aberg helped The Bay secure a blowout 9-2 win over New York in Palm Beach, Florida, on Tuesday with the team’s third shot on the fourth hole, putting them within four feet. Woods praised Aberg’s simple but effective technique and hailed the Swedish golfer’s potential.
Aberg‘s best major finish came at The Masters last year when he finished second to No. 1 Scottie Scheffler. Woods has tipped Aberg to continue his development and believes he has what it takes to become one of the world’s best golfers.
“It’s so simple. Just straight up, straight down. He [Aberg] doesn’t do anything wrong in his golf swing,” Woods said. “There’s no little things that he does, and there’s nothing that’s not going to stop him from being one of the world’s best.”
oods isn’t the only competitor of Aberg’s to compliment his swing. Max Homa heaped high praise on his rival’s technique. “If you could build a golf swing, I would build this one,” he said. Aberg has even drawn comparisons to Woods, making the 49-year-old’s gushing assessment at TGL even sweeter.
On top of his second-placed finish at The Masters last year, Aberg, who turned pro in June 2023, bagged nine top tens, including two other runner-up finishes. Aberg has time to prepare for the first major of 2025 at Augusta National Golf Club in April, where he’ll be hoping to shoot his way to a career-first green jacket.
Last year was Aberg’s first season competing at all majors, and he was grateful to be playing alongside the world’s best. Now, he hopes to beat them.
“I think I’m not sure we have that much time, but obviously these last, you know, almost a year now has been unbelievable,” he said after The Masters. “It’s changed my life on the golf course, not necessarily off the golf course, but on the golf course.
“I’ve learned so much by being around the best players in the world and being around world-class caddies. It’s been so much fun and I can’t wait to do this for a very long time.”
Aberg and The Bay will not compete in TGL until Feb. 17 against Atlanta Drive and Boston Common. The following week, they’ll play Woods and the Jupiter Links on Feb. 25 before finishing their regular season against Los Angeles on March 3.
