Grant Horvat asks Tiger Woods to clarify his past comments which sent every golf watcher ‘for a little spin’

Grant Horvat became one of the YouTube stars to collaborate with 15-time major winner Tiger Woods.

With the online scene continuing to boom, it was only a matter of time before Woods was featured – and Horvat was the man fortunate enough to spend 20 minutes picking the brain of arguably golf’s greatest ever.

Woods talked Horvat through a fairway finder with the driver and also clarified some of the fundamentals required to hit woods off the ground.

When discussing the best way to strike the ball off the turf, Woods doubled down on his previous comments about not taking divots.

Tiger Woods discusses divot comments with Grant Horvat

Back in 2023, Woods left the golfing world confused after telling Scottie Scheffler he didn’t take divots when flushing the ball on the range.

“I’m just picking it,” Woods said.

“Do you do that always when you’re warming up?” Scheffler responded.

“Uh-huh,” Woods said. “When I’m swinging well, I don’t take divots.”

A similar topic emerged during Woods’ brief lesson with Horvat, and the YouTube star was slightly bewildered by the advice.

“It is true. When I am hitting it at my best, if I have to hit a shot, I am going to hit turf and lean the shaft. I am going to take turf. If I am here flushing it, with no wind, no, I don’t take divots,” Woods said.

Horvat replied: So if you are on the range you are barely taking?”

Woods added: “It depends how the wind is. On the range, I would feel that wind slightly into it. I would start leaning on it. If you had no wind and hitting shots with no consequence or distance,e and I’m just sending it, I don’t take a lot of turf. I sweep it.

“If I had to play certain shots and I’m hitting draws, I don’t take a lot of turf as I am swinging in and out, and it’s shallower. If I am playing cuts – if I am hitting a five-wood or a three-wood, I am going to have some turf interaction. But there is no wind; I am not going to have a lot; I am just going to send it.”

Finally, Horvat said: “You threw everyone for a little spin when you said you don’t take divots.”

What Jon Rahm has said about Tiger Woods’ divots

Despite leaving most of the golfing world confused, two-time major winner Jon Rahm understood where Woods’ comments derived from.

During a video with Bob Does Sports, Rahm said: “No, I already knew,” when asked about Woods’ divot claim. “On the range. On the course, I’ve played with him when he takes big divots, too, depending on the shot,” the Spaniard added.

It’s under a week until golf fans will see Woods back in competitive action as Jupiter Links GC face off against Los Angeles Golf Club in the second match of the tech-infused TGL.

Woods’ last outing came at the PNC Championship in Orlando, where he placed second alongside his son, Charlie.
