Former Ring of Honor Chief Officiating Officer, Joe Koff passes away at 73.

The wrestling world mourns today as Joe Koff, the former Chief Operating Officer for Ring of Honor, has passed away.

The 73-year-old was instrumental in many of ROH’s business dealings over the years.
Koff was the ROH’s COO from 2011 to 2022.

He presided over one of the company’s most famous eras, from its sale to Sinclair in 2011 all the way to Tony Khan’s buyout a couple of years ago.

Koff was 73 years old and had been privately battling cancer for some time, according to a report from PWInsider. The former ROH executive decided to stop treatments in August in order to enjoy the remainder of his days with his family.

“The AEW & Ring of Honor Family, along with the wrestling world mourn the passing of Joe Koff. Our thoughts are with his family and his friends,” wrote.

Several major figures in the wrestling world have reacted to the news, including Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes, who found his footing on the independent scene under Koff’s watch in 2016.

Rhodes’ tenure in ROH alongside The Elite at that time set the stage for the eventual creation of AEW.
