Rory McIlroy’s Major U-Turn: Relocates to UK with Erica Stoll After Selling £2M Northern Ireland Dream Home

Rory McIlroy, the 2025 Masters champion, has made a significant life change by moving back to the UK with his wife, Erica Stoll, and their four-year-old daughter, Poppy, after selling his dream home in Northern Ireland over a decade ago. The golf superstar, who previously resided in a luxurious £17M mansion in Florida’s exclusive Bear’s Club golf community, has now settled into a newly renovated £9M property in Wentworth, Surrey, England, fulfilling Stoll’s desire to escape Florida’s intense heat.

McIlroy’s original £2M mansion in Holywood, Northern Ireland, built in 2006, was a golfer’s paradise, featuring a gym, tennis court, driving range, and a backyard practice area. However, his demanding PGA Tour schedule led him to sell the 14-acre estate in 2013 to TV presenter Gary McCausland for less than the asking price. In 2017, McIlroy upgraded to the Florida mansion, previously owned by Ernie Els, boasting nine bedrooms, an infinity pool, and a six-car garage.

The move to Wentworth, located near London, Heathrow Airport, and the prestigious Wentworth Golf Club, marks a fresh chapter for McIlroy and Stoll, who reconciled after halting divorce proceedings in 2024. Speaking at the Renaissance Club before the Genesis Scottish Open, McIlroy shared, “We moved into our new home in Wentworth a few weeks ago. It’s amazing what a bit of detachment can do. It’s reignited my excitement for the game.” The couple’s decision to relocate has reportedly rekindled McIlroy’s competitive spirit, despite a dip in form following his career Grand Slam completion at the Masters in April 2025, where he tied for 47th at the PGA Championship and 19th at the US Open.

The move, widely discussed on X, has been celebrated as a testament to McIlroy’s commitment to his family, with fans noting the positive impact on his personal and professional life. While he plans to split time between Surrey and Florida, the Wentworth estate, complete with a 44-foot entertainment room and indoor/outdoor pools, offers a new base for McIlroy as he prepares for the 2025 Open Championship at Royal Portrush.
